Barker & Stonehouse, a family-run British independent furniture retailer, had an outdated website that was not effectively communicating the brand or meeting the needs of its customers. The site was difficult to navigate, lacked clear visual language and features that would help increase sales.
We took a collaborative approach, working closely with Barker & Stonehouse to fully understand their needs and find the best solutions to their problems. The team started by conducting discovery meetings and workshops, followed by the creation of content maps, wireframes, and flow diagrams to communicate ideas. From there, the design system was built, with a focus on creating a consistent visual language. The full UI and prototypes for the site were then designed, taking into account the evolving design system.
As a family-run business with a long-standing reputation for quality furniture, it was important for the website to accurately reflect the company's brand and values. Through discovery meetings and workshops, we were able to gain a deep understanding of what made Barker & Stonehouse unique and how to effectively communicate this through the UX and UI.
Regular catch-up calls and updates also allowed for close collaboration with the client, ensuring that the final product met their exact requirements and expectations.
The redesign of the product page (PDP) was approached with careful consideration for what the customer wanted to see and how to best present this information.
I organized the content in a clear and intuitive manner, ensuring that important information was easily accessible.
Large gallery images were also utilized to allow the product to speak for itself and showcase its quality and craftsmanship.
Additionally, the use of a tray system provided a solution for displaying detailed information, such as configuration options, product details, and store stock, without cluttering the page.
This allowed for a clean and streamlined user experience, where the customer could quickly and easily access the information they needed to make an informed purchasing decision.
Given the client’s large and diverse product offering, it was important for customers to be able to quickly and easily find the products they were looking for.
The navigation was structured in a way that allowed customers to easily browse the product categories and find what they were searching for. When designing the navigation it was also carefully considered to give the client the ability to edit themselves adding, removing and re-organizing content.
Though the integration of Klevu search we were also able to fully design and optimize the search experience.

By staying in close contact with the client throughout the design process, we were able to ensure that we were meeting their needs and expectations.
Regular check-ins and workshops allowed us to gather feedback and make any necessary adjustments to the design in real-time.
This open and collaborative approach helped to build trust and continue a strong working relationship with the client.
Designing the checkout and my account pages presented a significant challenge in terms of UX and prototyping.
These pages are critical to the customer experience as they are where customers enter their personal and payment information, and where they can track the progress of their order.
It was essential that the design and functionality of these pages were optimized to provide a secure, straightforward and user-friendly experience.
